Grit-n-Grime Drive

The Grit-n-Grime Drive is a combination drive that encapsulates the characteristics of delusional drive and old-school tube qualities, blurring the boundaries between overdrive and distortion. It implements a dual drive, with a front-end drive that features extremely natural and transparent overtones and excellent high-end response, complemented by a rear-end drive that preserves elastic midrange and tube saturation characteristics.

The front-end drive, in addition to the traditional 3 knobs (Vol, Tone, Gain), introduces three tweak points for creating a variety of tones and textures. The Mid-char knob tilts the centre of Tone adjustment to provide flexibility in tone selection with a 182Hz range at the most useful mid frequency. Depending on the Mid-char position, the highest and lowest frequencies of Tone are interconnected, allowing for a wide tonal range. The Edge-Mild toggle enhances frequencies above 1kHz or 340Hz.

The Vintage-Modern toggle, determining the clipping method, lets you choose between Mosfet or Germanium-simulation modes. This allows versatile applications, whether used as a standalone drive, a gain boost for the rear drive, or boosting other overdrives or distortions.

The rear-end drive employs a three-stage cascading amplification commonly used in tube amps, ensuring great texture whether at low gain or full crank-up. Despite being implemented with hard-clipping, a distortion frequently adopted, the combination of high headroom and the three-stage amplification method allows it to possess both distortion and overdrive characteristics, making it suitable as the main drive. To fully utilise the characteristics of this rear-end drive, a stack level is added to set different levels when used stacked, e.g., stack level for solo and own level for backing.

To fully leverage the advantages of the dual channels, the selection method for the two drives is provided. Placing the G/R selection toggle at the bottom allows you to use the rear-end drive and front-end drive on the green and red channels, respectively. Placing the toggle at the top lets you use the rear-end drive and stacked drive on the two channels separately.

The implementation of high input impedance and low output impedance ensures not to affect any effects in front or behind. With an added stabilisation circuit, it boasts very low noise characteristics. Internally boosting the input 9V to 18V provides high headroom, preserving the original characteristics of the signal. Additionally, to minimise colouration from components, electro-mechanical relays are used instead of commonly used FET or analogue switch components in the effects world. This ensures true bypass and maximum preservation of the original signal in both bypass and internal signal flow control.
